Between Wake and Sleep
This poem describes the moments before we are fully awake and again consumed by care.

In this place between wake and sleep,
The closest to heaven I can find,
Nothing on earth can drag me deep
No obligation there to bind.

Not mindful of love or passions lost,
Nor beset by winds or tempest tossed.
Just endless sky that's wide and clear,
With no trace of sorrow, longing or fear,

In this place between wake and sleep,
Dwells a peace in my waking world denied.
Which fades away as my consciousness creeps,
Till I find once again I am bound and tied.

But for those brief moments, I can still run free,
Unhindered by desire, compulsion or need.
The landscape flows endless beyond all my heart has known,
And I am glad to be released and embrace this joy alone.
