The muse
is not an alien thing.
Some long lost stranger forcing you to begin.
Some thing that only talks to the creative.
A friend to the artist only.

The muse
talks to every one of us.
If we are willing to listen.
It is the drive
the indomitable force
that makes thought flow.

The scientist who creates a new theory.
The politician who intones inspiring speech.
The madman who jabbers unpalatable truths.
The cleaner who whistles a cheerful ditty.
The babysitter who entertains the young ones.
All hear the muse whisper gently.

The muse
is not an alien thing.
It is nothing but
the better part
of every one of us.
