Science Vs Religion: The Ultimate Deathmatch
Religion enters into the ring,
praying, bowing and doing his thing.
He disrobes, then punches at the air,
his fingers run through his long hair.
Half the crowd cheers raucously.
The other half? They strain to see,
from whence their own champion will come,
Religion bores them, they say he's dumb.
Then suddenly, their prayers are heard,
Science runs in, so fast he's blurred.
He shakes some hands, then vaults the ropes,
Religious folks lose grip of their hopes.
For this science kid is quick, it's true,
He's younger, tougher, and smarter too.
But the clever man would hedge his bet,
religion has tricks up his sleeve yet.
The pair stand strong, and their eyes meet.
The moment lasts just a heartbeat.
They come together, and touch their gloves,
Fireworks rain down from high above.
The bell rings out, but no punches are thrown,
for this is to be a war of words alone.
Science strikes first, with all it's truth,
the cheers from one half raise the roof.
It expounds on all of it's theories,
religion looks to be on it's knees.
But religion comes back, Rocky-style,
and spews out all its hell-filled bile.
But science laughs, it has no fear,
for belief in hell to it seems queer.
So religion tries a different tack,
and this time science is taken aback.
It talks of what went on in the great before,
and the niggling doubts that make science sore.
So on and on the battle rages.
The litany goes on for pages.
After several hours, even the crowd looks bored.
The combatants have blunted their verbal swords.
They stumble, they stutter, they can't go on,
they both fall down, and neither has won.
But the crowd won't leave without a conclusion,
so it's falls to the lawyers to find resolution.
Eventually, after months of talks,
out of the court one grey suit walks.
He says what they've done with all their fees,
is define some logical boundaries.
So science must stick to what it can measure,
and religion can revel in the unseen treasure.
