“Wake up Bailey!” I hate mornings. I really do. Especially when my mother wakes me up at half eight on a Sunday. Please, is it really necessary? The answer is no. “Bailey, hurry up! You need to help me with Layla.” Ugh. I loved my sister, I really did, but she could be such a handful.

Sighing, I swung my feet out of bed and sat up. I ran a hairbrush through my hair and chucked on my black skinny jeans and tee-shirt that had a single question mark on it from the day before. I applied my usual makeup, eyeliner and lip gloss, and made my way downstairs.

I sat down in the nearest kitchen chair and pored myself a glass of orange juice from the carton set on the table. Even before I’d taken my first swig, Layla, swooped down from nowhere and took the glass from my hand, draining it in one gulp. I looked at her warily, not knowing what mood she would be in. You see, my sister has bi-polar disorder. At just fourteen, she had been diagnosed as clinically insane. Okay, so to be honest, it’s only mild and only results in extreme mood swings but it would get worse and worse as she got older and progress into an extreme condition.

“Hey Bailey!” She smiled at me cheekily. Good, she was happy. For now, anyway. “Guess what today we’re getting a lodger! A real life person who’s going to stay in our house! Mum says he’s your age but don’t worry because I already told her you have a boyfriend. He’s going to stay in the attic room and its going to be amazing!”

She was speaking so fast that I could barely make out what she was saying but with Layla, I had learned to live with it.

“Awesome. I think you might have a little crush there already, Layla” I winked at her and she burst into hysterical laughter, running out of the door without so much as a backwards glance.

I shook my head and shoved on my odd converse of one neon yellow and one neon orange. I ate my breakfast slowly, ripping the crust of the toast and eating it separately. I had just finished washing up when I felt my back pocket vibrate. I flipped up my phone to reveal a text from my boyfriend, Alex.

Hey Bailey x
Want to come up the park with me and the guys in five?
Xx
I had just texted back that I’d be there when my mum walked into the room.

“I’m going up the park with the guys now; you’ll be okay with Layla until I get back?” A mouth full of toast, she just nodded and waved me off. I pulled my coat on and grabbed my bag, shoving my hands into my pockets and walking the two minute walk up to the park just by my house

As soon as I got there I was greeted by a screaming Kathy. “Baileeeeeeey!”
“Katheeey!” She ran up and hugged me like she hadn’t seen me in years even though the day before we had spent the whole day together shopping but I’d realised a long time ago that this greeting was normal for Kathy.

I felt Alex wrap his arms around my waist and I reached up to kiss him.

“Guys, please, keep it pg 13; I need to protect my innocence!” That was Kyle, Kathy’s boyfriends and Alex’s best friend.

A couple of hours and a lot of bruises later, I had invited everyone back to my house Alex, Kathy and Kyle were the only people that knew about my sister. I knew I could absolutely trust them with anything.

“Sorry, we gotta go...I have dinner with her parents” I grinned and waved Kyle and Kathy off.

“Okay…so where were we?” asked Alex, toying with the hem of my t-shirt. I smacked his hand away but kissed him any way. I don’t know how long we were making out on the sofa but we were interrupted by a cough. I looked up and saw my mum looking at us with a frown on her face.

“Awkward…” muttered Alex, climbing off the sofa, I stood up and did up the buttons on my shirt and ran a hand through my hair in attempt to redeem myself.

“I think it’s time you left, Alex” said my mum.

“Uh…no it isn’t mum, you can’t tell him to leave” I grabbed his hand to stop him from leaving.

“Yes I can, we have a guest.” I sighed and kissed Alex on the cheek.

“See you tomorrow babe”

“Yeah, see yah” I sighed and sat down. “So...who’s the new lodger?” I asked. Mum looked uncomfortable and shifted from foot to foot. “Well…who is he?”

The guy who I presumed was the lodger stepped out from the doorway. “Hi Bailey” My heart stopped. Jake Frost. Why?

Jake Frost was the one who broke my heart. What was he doing here?

“What are you doing here?” My voice broke.

“I’m your new lodger…” No, not now, not when my life had just started to go right! Not knowing what else to do, I ran upstairs into my room.

He could ruin everything!
