Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to introduce to you my newest dear friend and pal, Irisisflower, or to me, Iris. It has been an enjoyable experience getting to know her. I have been blessed by the time we’ve spent talking to each other and having fun together writing our campfire story, Fall Walk. A fellow Christian, she is lovely to work with and has a wonderful sense of humor.
A single mother, she has two children, a girl eleven years old and a boy nine. She loves her children very much and her bond to them is strong. Iris is thankful to God for these precious gifts He has given her. Her poem, “Waiting” shows just how important her children are to her. The last few lines of her piece says it well: “I need this to be able to function, laugh and continue learning about that which is most important to me my little ones, my darlings, and yes, even my own dreams.” Iris has a few hobbies she enjoys and they are: beading, scrap booking, poetry reading and writing, and of course spending quality time with her children doing crafts; they all enjoy their fun time together. Her favorite food is Chinese, and beverages, Dr. Pepper and Cherry Limeade. Writing is an important part of her, and with a very busy life she has to make time to do it. Her favorite time to write is late at night after her children are fast asleep. Right now her favorite author is Jane Austen, but she is an avid reader. She says, “I love to read everything.” This is something all of us can relate to as writers and poets. She considers all ‘her writings’ as her babies, her favorites being Juniper’s Curse and Porch Swing. Her continued goal in life is to love her children and to find ways for all of them to be happy. I know that in this day and age, it isn’t necessarily easy, but she is a determined woman and will reach the goals she sets for herself under the guidance and tutelage of the Lord. As all of us do, she has wishes and dreams. She’s told me that she wishes she had more courage, and I can understand that when she is raising two children in a world that isn’t so peaceful and the strife of it seems not too far from any of our backyards. She’d like to live on a deserted island with her computer and bed, right there on the beach with all the amenities to keep her content as she writes her stories. She says she’s a day dreamer, with a laugh, but it’s all in fun and always in a good and caring way. If she had the unlimited resources to travel she would love to visit Italy, France, Greece, London or any island getaway. Lastly, she has enjoyed her time here at WDC, and in particular The Paper Dolls Group. She seeks to learn about what stirs her mind and soul and to meet others that will push her in the right direction. She loves the PDG and says it’s the best thing about the site. Her words are “the people I have met each leave a part of themselves with me with every interaction.” I can say with all honesty she is a woman that anyone would want to have as a friend.
