So Will He Keep Me
Like whimsical fairies gathering for a summer celebration, water droplets dance on the thirsty oak canopy before falling to the leaf-covered ground, dampening the soft soil beneath my Nikes. The cool rain refreshes me and cleanses my mind of all worries, releasing me from the trials that bind me to this Earth and reminding me to become one with God's creation. Like a prayer interrupted by softly falling footsteps, the silent trees acknowledge the skittering of grey squirrels as they scamper away from human sight. Sparrows do not seem to mind my presence, and their music soothes and quiets my harried spirit. A doe sprints past me, a proper 'amen' to my commune with nature, and my journey in these beautiful woods comes to an end. I must return to the tasks before me, strengthened by God's promise: As He cares for the sparrow, so will He keep me. Pat Nelson November 10, 2009
