NEW PROMPT:
Tomorrow is Veteran's Day in the US, which honors all military veterans who have served. Write a STORY or POEM honoring one particular veteran. This can be a real person in your life, or fiction, a historical veteran, or a mix of all three. The point is to make it about honoring a veteran in some way.

Remember to include word counts for stories (1000 words or less) or line counts for poems (40 lines or less).

PROUD HONOR

Proud honor
focused the lens
of dad's heart
through which he
viewed the privilege
of serving
in WW II;.
the use of his ill-suited
chemistry background,
finally applied to a great end
for his country
and Navy companions.
He never spoke of his years
of service, but let the silver
shrapnel left in his shin
glitter
like the souvenir
it was to him!
