SHADOWS
By Marduk Haaman
The shadow's searched for Thomas, Michael, and Jim. Their fathers had shed them to avoid going to hell, and left them as orphans in the dark town of Broadside, their only help provided to the kids. Thomas figured it out too late: Torches meant more shadows, meaning death. The night when the shadows arrived, the whole school was butchered, and fortunately, night came with its dark embrace, and Thomas, Michael and Jim sneaked from tree to tree, attempting to enter the church, maybe their only hope. Michael stepped onto the road leading to the church, an overhead streetlamp flickered on. His shadow danced, and then it reached and tore off his spine, then took his soul.
Thomas and Jim screamed. Jim made a desperate dash across the lighted road toward the church. He never made it. His shadow tripped him, bit off his face and pulled him into hell. The screams were horrendous. The shadows almost fully had their vengeance on the three kids of the men who had left them that way. Thomas curled into a ball, crying and waiting for daylight to come. And with it the sun. With the sun shadows, and a bloody, painful death.
