Urdu:  Shabnam ba gul e laala na khaali zay ada hay
          Daagh e dil e baidard nazergaah e haya hay

English:=== On the face of tulip the drops of dew
                  Oh, what a lovely sight; what a wonderful view
                                            -

Urdu:  Dil khoonshuda e kashmakash e hasrat e deedaar
          Aaiena ba dast e but e badmast e hina hay

English:=== Her beautiful face when it does not see
                  You should see my heart and its agony
                                              -

Urdu:  Sholay say na hoti, hawas e shola nay jo ki
          Ji kis qader afsurdagi e dil pay jala hay

English:=== I tell my heart that it is not a game
                  For it's the moth, and she is the flame
                                              -

Urdu:  Tamsaal maen taeri hay wo shokhi keh ba sad zoaq
          Aaiena ba andaaz e gul aaghoashkusha hay

English:=== And when the mirror sees her gorgeous face
                  It falls in love with her beauty and grace
                                              -

Urdu:  Qumri kuff e khaakister o bulbul qafas e rang
          Aey naala nishaan e jiger e soakhta kya hay

English:=== And in her garden the nightingale
                  To mourn her absence it only can wail
                                              -

Urdu:  Khoo nay teri afsurda kiya wehshat e dil ko
          Maashooqi o baihoaslagi turfa bala hay

English:=== And when she's caustic, and bitter, and tart
                  It's in a quandary, my poor little heart
                                              -                 

Urdu:  Majboori o daawaa e gariftaari e ulfat
          Dast e teh e sang aamda paimaan e wafa hay

English:=== The bondage of love is all  too strong
                  And it becomes more binding as you go along
                                                -

Urdu:  Maaloom hua haal e shaheedaan e guzishta
          Taegh e sitam aaiena e tasweernuma hay

English:=== The victims of love can never complain
                  They learn to live with the dagger and chain
                                                -

Urdu:  Aey pertoo e khursheed e jahaantaab idher bhee
          Sa'ay ki terheh hum pay ajab waqt perha hay

English:=== But she is more precious than the sun and the moon
                  And we lovers enjoy her benevolent boon
                                                  -

Urdu:  Naakerda gunaahoun ki bhee hasrat ki milay daad
          Ya Rab ager in kerda gunaahoun ki saza hay

English:=== Oh, if for our sins we're going to be hit
                  Laud us also for those we could not commit     
                                                -

Urdu:  Baigaangi e khalq say baidil na ho GHALIB
          Koie naheen taera toe meri jaan Khuda hay

English:=== So our cruel world we should not mind
                  For, GHALIB, our Lord is generous and kind
