Keats:

Asleep
Asleep! O sleep a little while, white pearl!
And let me kneel, and let me pray to thee,
And let me call Heaven’s blessing on thine eyes,
And let me breathe into the happy air,
That doth enfold and touch thee all about,
Vows of my slavery, my giving up,
My sudden adoration, my great love!

Assignment:

(a)Which particular line really resonated with you?
I particularly liked Keats’ opening line of the poem…Asleep! O sleep a little while, white pearl!
(b)How did the poet's style influence your own?
I liked the brevity of this piece, and the meaning packed into its short lines. It paints a lovely picture of one’s vows of adoration for some loved one.
(c)What is the connection between the poet's poem and your own?
In my piece, I tried to capture the poet’s flair for description.

My attempt: (inspired by Asleep!)

Rebirth

Awaken! Ope thy lovely eyes towards Heaven!
Allow thou subjects to observe thy beauty,
And grant us the privilege of thy blossoming face,
Awakening again to the new spring morning,
As thou stretcheth and rise to meet the glorious day,
Refreshed once again and rising from the dark earth
That caught thine wilted petals at thy last demise,
Bloom in thy magnificence, oh born again rose!
