Urdu:  Gham khaanay maen boda dil e naakaam bohat hay
          Yeh ranj keh kum hay mai e gulfaam bohat hay

English:=== My heart can't bear this sorrow and pain
                  No more from drinking can I afford to abstain
                                            -

Urdu:  Kehtay huay saaqi say haya aati hay werna
          Hay yuin keh mujhay durd e teh e jaam bohat hay

English:=== O maid of the bar, if you can't spare wine
                  Give me some dregs; for me they are fine
                                            -

Urdu:  Nay teer kamaan maen hay na sayyaad kameen maen
          Goshay mean qafas kay mujhay aaraam bohat hay

English:=== It's so nice in here; I like my prison
                  For there are no predators where I am in
                                              -

Urdu:  Kya zohd ko maanoun keh na ho gercheh riyaaie
          Paadaash e amal ki tamey e khaam bohat hay

English:=== O preacher, your piety I cannot afford
                  I don't like punishment; I don't want reward
                                                -

Urdu:  Haen ahl e khirad kis rawish e khaas pay naazaan
          Pabastagi e rasm o reh e aam bohat hay

English:=== The people who think that they're so wise
                  To follow convention they always advise
                                                  -

Urdu:  Zamzam hi pay chhorho, mujhay kya toaf e haram say
          Aalooda e mai jaama e ahraam bohat hay

English:=== Oh, business with pleasure I'd like to combine
                  When I go to Mecca, I'll carry some wine
                                                  -

Urdu:  Hay qehr ger ab bhee na banay baat keh un ko
          Inkaar naheen aur mujhay ibraam bohat hay

English:=== And though I'm certain she will resist
                  She'll have to be nice, I'm going to insist
                                                    -

Urdu:  Khoon ho kay jiger aankh say tapka naheen aey merg
          Rehnay day mujhay yaan keh abhee kaam bohat hay

English:=== If the Angel of Death does come to me
                  I can't go, I'll tell him, I'm just too busy
                                                  -

Urdu:  Ho ga koie aisa bhee keh GHALIB ko na jaanay
          Shaair toe wo achha hay pay badnaam bohat hay

English:=== And though as a poet I don't have fame
                  To be notorious, GHALIB, I can certainly claim
