Derek took a step back from the bars as the steam thickened. What lifted within the steam caused terror to rise into Derek's heart. A large sphere lifted within the mist, the sphere turned and Derek could see what looked like a boneless body attactched, dangling, it's thin, sinuey body limp and lifeless as the sphere turned to face Derek, two giant purple eyes glowing brightly through the steam. Derek took a step back as the thing began to float over the bars and grow closer to Derek. He didn't know what the hell the thing was, but he could tell it wasn't very friendly. He took several steps back again and turned, breaking into a run. Derek wasn't going to look back as he bolted down the hall, his quickened steps echoing throught the hall just as Brooke's had.

Suddenly Derek's heart twisted and he missed a step, tripping and falling to the metal floor. Brooke...He couldn't hear her footsteps anymore...As Derek hit the floor he heard a scream echo through the halls. His stomach wretched and heart twisted even tighter, Brooke...he needed to find her. Derek's body seemed to act on it's own as he lifted himself up and pushed himself forward, driving him down the hallway faster then he ever thought possible. He heard a crash behind him and he turned his head, still running forward, wahtever the hell the thing was had hit the wall, more steam bursting form where it hit the celing. It was flying! It was rocketing toward him, lead by the massive sphericle head of the thing.

Derek turned his head back and saw the door he had found the dead body in, it was still closed, a good sign. As he grew closer another crash sounded from the door, then, the door ripped from it's hinges and thrown to the opposite wall, another one of the creature's heads against the wall. Derek's eyes went wide as he dropped, his body sliding right under the monster as it tore it's head from the broken door and turned to him. Derek's body rolled and propelled itself upward, landing on his moving feet he bolted down the hall at a crazed pace, two creatures now chasing him. Their eyes now a dark red, their sinewy bodies dangling behind them as they chased their prey.

The two creatures sped up, their prey so close to them, soon he would die, another soul, another one of them. They repeatedly opened and snapped their thick jaws shut as they chased, anxious to attack, and finish off their prey. They could not fail their summoner.

Derek's legs were moving as fast as they could, he felt weightless...Sadly he had no time to enjoy this feeling, he had to find Brooke, he had to save her. Up ahead, Derek saw a two way turn, one going left and the other going right. Derek slowed down and turned right, there he saw her, Brooke, down the hall about fifty yards was Brooke, trapped behind some bars as another one of the creatures was trying to get her. Derek's body didn't miss a step nor a beat of his racing heart as he bolted right down the new hall. One of the beasts persuing couldn't turn in time and crashed head first into the wall, denting it heavily as the other turned sharply, at it's speed almost scraping the wall as it did so before continuing it's chase. The beast that hit it's head tore it from the dent and followed it's companion, barely phased by it's blow to the head. Derek continued down the hall racing as fast as he could down toward his friend, his closest friend.

Brooke looked past the beast as she screamed loudly, the beast in front of her clawing at the bars blocking it with it's long yellow nails. It's jaws open wide, Brooke could see that inside the things mouth was nothing but a black pit, she could see nothing inside as it snapped it's jaws shut, the large triangle teeth seeming to come down like a guillotien, she had no doubt the effect would be the same as well. She saw Derek running towards her, two more of those monsters following him. She cried out for him, hoping he would help her.

As she cried out, the beast attacking the bars guarding Brooke turned toward Derek and bolted toward him, completely disregarding Brooke. Derek's eyes went wide and he dropped as the beast flew over him, Derek barely missing the creature's claws as he rolled to his feet and shouted to Brooke, "Come on!" He cried out, Brooke slid out from behind the bars and the two bolted down a left turn. Derek and Brooke ran faster as the beasts chased them, the third one that had missed, turnign quickly to follow the other two. Derek looked ahead and noticed thick metal doors, one on either side, with a red button on the oposite side of the doors they were on. Derek grinned as they passed the doors and stopped suddenly, he turned to face the beasts aa Brooke turned, seeing Derek stop. "Derek! Let's go! Come on!" She cried out.

Derek watched the beasts get closer and closer, they snapped their jaws in excietment, when suddenly Derek's hand flew out and hit the button, causing the foot thick steel doors on either side of the hall to snap shut, right in front of the monsters. Derek heard three loud crashes, and the door rattled only in the slightest. Derek grinned and turned back to Brooke. "Come on, that will buy us some time." He said as he ran past her, Brooke breaking into a run after him. The two ran down the metal halls, making random tuns in random directions. They passed doors, long locked and rusted, gritted windows that were so dirty, not even the orange light of the sun could peirce through. The only light, small patches here and there peeking through the pipes lit their way an ominous orange.

The two ran and ran, until Brooke began to slow and eventually stop , Derek turned, his breathing heavy, his side cramped and brow covered in sweat. Brooke leaned against the piped wall, gasping for air as she closed her eyes. Derek walked toward her and placed a hand on her shoulder, they panted, their chests burned and minds raced. "I...think we...lost them." Derek spoke breathlessy, his throat groaned with each breath, as he coughed. "We...must have run miles in these damn tunnels." He breathed and spoke. His side was killing him, but his breath was slowly returning to him. Brooke sighed in between one of her breaths, "We need...to find...a way...out of here." She panted. Derek nodded and looked around, the pipes were old and rusted, the flooring broken and uneven, the celing seemed to be made of nothing but pipes, but somehow sunlight trickled in.

Derek turned, his back to Brooke as he looked at the pipes along the wall. He walked forward and reached out, grabbing the pipe he could feel the layer of rust covering it. Derek tugged and the entire pipe shook, flakes of red rust falling as he tugged again. Derek grimaced and yanked the pipe, finally it ripping from it's old and rusted bolts. Derek held in his hand a three foot long section of pipe. He could hear gas pour from the broken pipe. "The gas is still on? This place should be shut down completely." He grimaced, this worried him. "Maybe those things turned the gas back on. Maybe they tunred on the whole facility. What if they have made this place their home? Like their hive or something?" Brooke said behind him. Derek didn't respond, he didn't know what the hell was going on. He knew the gas should be off, and the things chasing them didn't seem intelligent enough to do it...Someone or something was behind this, whoever or whatever it was, either didn't want anyone here at all and is just trying to get the two of them out of there, or they wanted Brooke and Derek specifially.

Derek didn't know which one, and he didn't want to get the chance to find out.
