NEW PROMPT: With Thanksgiving coming up next Thursday in the USA, many Americans are preparing to gorge themselves on turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and all the other traditional delicacies. Write a story or poem about a Thanksgiving dinner without the traditional foods.
The rain poured down The street was wet It was Thanksgiving Day And a plan was set. Me and the guys and some girls we knew Were down on our luck, the jobs were few. We gathered at noon to arrange our day We discussed our options and a plan soon grew. Then off to our corners in pouring rain We’d panhandle for hours then meet at two. We’d combine our take and see what we got Our hopes were dim but what else could we do. The streets were bare, the traffic was slow We looked so forlorn but nobody heeded Our hopes were dashed, our morale was low. Then out of the blue we got what was needed. It was two o’clock when we met at our spot Our total take was much less than a lot Then across the street, we heard a man cry “Come on over here, and see what I got, "I’m thankful today I have plenty to eat But my vegetarian restaurant will never serve meat. If it suits you, my friends, here’s all you can eat. Dig in and enjoy and there’s even a treat.” Well, we ate and we drank and had a great meal The best ever had, we laughed and did shout Then when we were stuffed to the gills with his food. He packed up the rest for us to take out 28 lines Nov 20, ‘09.
