NOSTALGIC  X'MAS  PARTY

It was Christmas in the sixties

When our grandpa took us small ones

To the Christmas party in his office

In Colombo city one late evening

My brother, myself, parents and cousins

Grandpa and grandma with their smiling faces

All took in a train to Colombo that day

To participate in the event called 'X'mas fantacy'

There were games to play for kids

Remember we were not yet in our teens

We played every game with joy and shouts

Running here and there in  our own free world

Then came the refreshments too

Cutlets, patties, cakes and toffees

Hot Chinese rolls, pastries and sweets

Finally iced coffee served in silver glasses

Now it was time for the presents for kids

My brother got a bat twice his size

My present was a flying saucer

With brown, white and yellow in color.

We returned home with full of joy

That Christmas party is still in my mind

Gone are the grand-parents and my mother too

Who gave us such pleasure in that X'mas season.
