LINE COUNT: 24
New Prompt: Write a story where Thanksgiving is the setting, but the story isn’t just about the characters being thankful. (See if you can make the judge laugh, like making a squirrel come out of nowhere to steal nuts from the table …) Remember your word counts for stories and line counts for poems. THE SURPRISE IN MY KITCHEN Thanksgiving dinner had begun and I was the sole cook; I was grieving what we’d done-- but was afraid to look. I really thought we had lost you; I really knew we did! When I looked in my favorite pot, I nearly flipped my lid! You are a small grey stripe-ed cat, too small to be your age, and when we try to touch or pet you fly into a rage. Thus, when I found you in the pot, I did a double take– I never thought you’d leave our room; you’re shy, for goodness sake! When I picked up my broiling pan, found you curl’d up inside. My only explanation is that you crawled in to hide! Now, I thought that pan would be stuffed with good trimmings to eat! I now give up! You’ve called my bluff! As cook, I must retreat!
