Yesterday's News
by Indelibleink As I open the morning paper I look back and bemoan, The reality that accompanies One who's left to reading alone I remember once telling my love we Had a "love for the ages," But in reality 'twas a scandal More befitting the society pages Simply played her for a fool Ignored my cheating and lying, Reassured myself those were not Serious tears that she was crying Misguided by arrogance Thought her love would forever last, And that she'd surely take me back When she always had in the past And the tortured tears that she cried Which I'd found so easy to ignore, Were just like those of mine today: Droplets of heart upon the floor. Yet, tonight, again I cry, as she Falls not into my arms, but his, Ironic that I find out too late Just what true love really is So it comes as no surprise to me While I pause for final reflection, That my love has placed us for all to see In the lonely obituary section. Now, forever will blame only myself For ignoring the all the clues, That's why I've made today's edition Of my ex-love's "Yesterday's News."
