a poem about trying to fit in

Land Lover

When you awaken under water,
Realize,
There is no air.
It's not a simple factual error.
You're just not meant to live there.
Try to swim with all the fishes?
More than likely,
You're just shark bait.
Some people learn to tread the water,
But you were born too late.
Don't hang around at the water's edge.
The waves will pull you.
Quickly... under.
Dig your heels too deep in the sand.
How can you move?
You wonder.
You know the water is salty here.
They say you'll float,
And you believe.
You may be a whale.
You may be a dolphin.
But,
You still need air to breathe.
