Come, Daddy Longlegs
A poem for children

Come, daddy longlegs, dance with me.
Whirl through the vines of the wild sweet pea.
Wearing our finest, we'll grandly pose
like ballerinas on tippy toes.

Come, lucky cricket, sing your song.
Kick out your feet as you skip along.
I'll start the round so you can reply,
echoing chirps through the cool night sky.

Come, silly pill bug, let's play ball.
Why do you creep up against the wall?
Tuck in your legs, take a running roll,
pass through the posts as I call out Goal!

Come, slinky snail, but take your time.
Paint me a picture in silver slime.
I'll work with mud while you supervise,
swaying the stalks of your knobby eyes.

Come, lacy mayfly, flit my way.
Let's make the most of your only day.
Time is the money I freely spend,
wishing and winging with you, my friend.
