What Christmas Means To Me
Contest Entry for Coloring the World Contest Round 113

My assignment to the Children’s Group at the tiny country church that I attend was to tell me in their own words what Christmas means to them. We will be singing the carol “C” is for the Christ Child in a few days. This started me thinking about all of the things that Christmas means to me. Now, I find that the prompt for this week’s contest is the same…..hmmmmm….guess it was meant for me to write this!

What Christmas Means To Me...

*XMasTree**XMasTree**XMasTree**XMasTree**XMasTree*

As the season approaches, and Christmas is near
I stop to reflect on the things I hold dear.
Of course, friends and family, hold a special spot;
And I’ll be giving thanks for the good health we’ve got.

But closer reflection on this celebration
Makes me grateful to Christ for His gift of Salvation.
Without Jesus who came as a babe to this place,
We all would be lost; much confusion we’d face.

Many celebrate with a Christmas tree;
Not like the cross there on Mount Calvary.
A Christmas tree tells us of eternal life
With evergreen limbs hung with ornaments rife.

Ornaments round with no beginning nor end
Like our Holy Father, our Savior and Friend.
A tree that is covered with silver and gold--
Like Heavenly mansions and treasures, I'm told.

A tree whose branches like arms outstretched to the world;
He died on a tree as insults were hurled.
He was nailed to the cross; our sins placed Him there.
He died to save us from a life of despair.

A tree filled with light as Christ lights the earth
With the love of God sent to us by His birth.
Some angels adorn our green Christmas tree
Like the ones with glad tidings, who sang joyfully.

There’s candy cane staffs, striped red and white,
To represent shepherds standing guard in the night.
Atop is the star that shone in the sky
Guiding their way to a stable nearby.

Decorated with care, it’s beautiful, plus,
This evergreen tells us how He cares for us.
And the gifts that you find in the space 'neath the tree
Remind us of wise men and their presents three.

So if you may ask me what Christmas means
I could simply say trees of evergreen.
Trees filled with the Light, sent from God above
Through a Tiny Child; a gift filled with His love.
