This saying "honesty is the best policy" is one that every child is taught at a very early age. As kids, probably the first thing we're warned against is lying. It's also probably the first thing we get scolded for doing, doing it is also the first secret that we keep. I'm not saying this holds true for everyone, but one thing's for certain: lying is bad, we've known that since before we started schools. We refrain from it, and feel guilty if and when we ever have to do it.
That's probably one thing we do more than any other. We lie to our parents, siblings, teachers, friends, consequently disappointing them in the very least.
The bigger the lies, the more trouble it gets us into. The more frequently we do it, the more trusts we break and people we disappoint.
Point is, lying is unacceptable. We've known that always. But at nearly sixteen, there still is one specific type of lying im not too certain about. No adults ever warned me against it. Infact, I wasn't even aware it existed, until ofcourse, it started running my life, and became such a dominant part of me that I still dont think it's wrong, not too sure, because like I said, never been taught about it.

For all those who still couldnt have guessed it, I'm talking, ofcourse, about lying to oneself. constantly denying to accept the truth, that explains it better. yet a third way to put it is  "optimism". at this point, I doubt there's any ambiguity left as to what I mean. know why it's so easy to understand? Because we all do it. Did you just say no to that? There, you lied to yourself again. Denied the truth. But guess what? No one's blaming you for it. It is for the big survival, after all.

So, I think that this "honestly is the best policy" can not be applied in all "dishonest" situations, because it probably isn't  the best.
This is one situation in which lying helps, dont deny THIS atleast. And that probably is the reason why adults never warned us against it, they were constantly in denial of the fact that it existed.

Because apparently its not lying to one self, its hoping against hope, its optimism, and it obviously has a twingue of reality in it.

Right. like I said, constant denial.
