Marc's Life Decade in Review (long)

2000

When the year 2000 began I was 5 days into a job that didn't work out to well. I was a cartboy/bagger.

I graduated High School on June 16.

This didn't effect me directly, but a local radio station was vandalized and the station was unable to operate for 2 weeks in retaliation for a court ordered eviction of the operator of the station by the owner due to non-payment of rent in September.

I quit my job 3 weeks prior to my one year anniversary due to no raise and poor working conditions. (They said I'd get a raise when the raise the minimum wage). - December.

2001

March - Found a cool website where I could share my writing. WRITING.COM (previously known as STORIES.COM).

March - Hip-hop music finally launched on a local FM station. (Previously only available on AM).

October - Started working at Shaw's in Bristol, CT. Was a cartboy/bagger.

2002

Began interning at WXCT AM 990 (formerly WNTY) in Southington, CT. - February.

Attended 1st Writing.Com Convention in Baltimore. It was my first time flying in an airplane!!!!!!! - August.

Went to NYC for the first time as part of a tour. Got to see a tour of NBC-TV. Paid my respects at Ground Zero, leaving behind my "Bristol, Connecticut" hat. - November.

2003

Family decided to downsize where we live and we moved from Bristol, CT to Southington, CT. - February.

Attended 2nd Writing.Com Convention in King of Prussia, CT. It was the first time I rode an Amtrak Train. Missed the first day of the Convention because trains weren't running due to Electrical Problems. First time I was ever at the King of Prussia Mall. - August

2004

WXCT sold. Station went to part time Spanish Format. Internship ended. - May

Offered a time slot on WXCT for $20/week. Began hosting my own radio show. - June.

Attended 3rd Writing.Com Convention in Bethlehem, PA. - July. Missed part of first day because Travelocity changed me to a later flight.

Radio Show ended - August. Spanish format took over entire stations' broadcast day.

Got a transfer to the Southington, CT Shaw's September.

In honor of my last day at the Bristol Shaw's a Car crashed into a school bus at the intersection right before the store. Got to see the medical helicopter land in the Shaw's parking lot.

Hell Froze over and the evil Redsox Nation won the World Series. Frown

Took a day trip to NYC with a travel group from Southington, CT. Got to go to the Empire State Building. Weather spoiled the view, but it was still cool to go up to the 86th floor. Ate at several different BKs in one day. Paid my respects again at Ground Zero. - November.

2005

Grandma Marie died. - June

Attended the 4th Writing.Com Convention in Bethlehem, PA. - July. Subway train in London, England was bombed the same day and I was concerned for the safety of convention attendees flying in from London. A suicidal squirrel chewed through an electrical line at the hotel causing chaos for the first few hours of the convention.

2006

Finally was able to cashier training at Shaw's - January.

Met my best friend Paul for the First time. - February. He was a coworker at Shaw's.

Paul, myself, and a few other co-workers picked to paint store. - March.

Quit my job at Shaw's in May. Sick of harassment by supervisor and because I got hurt because of said supervisor.

Found The AMESFANCLUB.COM and DEADMALLS.COM sites while unemployed. (Retail past and present has been a passion of mine) - June.

Hired at Price Chopper as cashier in October.

Missed 5th and final Writing.Com Convention due to too many other financial obligations.

Southington Shaw's closed at the end of October. Best friend Paul got new job and we briefly lost touch.

Became friends with a cool dude at Price Chopper named Jeff nicknamed The Rodent.

Failed the driving test the first time - September.

2007

Finally passed my driving test and got my license - May.

Mom gave me her old car. Registered it right after I got my license. First day taking the car out, I sideswiped my dad's car pulling into the driveway. Frown

Got lost going to Rodent's house for the first time. Ended up in Meriden. Dealt with a very rude witch with a "B" at the customer service desk at the run-down West Main Street Stop & Shop when trying to get directions. "Excuse me, miss, can you tell me how to get to the Chamberlain Highway?" (I knew once I got to The Chamberlain Highway I'd be able get back to Southington and find Rodent's house). "Buy a map! They're on the rack around the corner!" So as I was struggling to find Meriden on a map of Central Connecticut a nice customer asked me where I was trying to find. And he gave me directions to the Chamberlain Highway, which was just around the corner. Once I finally got to Rodent's house and picked him up we had a good time.

The next day I rear-ended a lady at a red light in front of Ame's Plaza in Southington. I got a written warning for following to closely. No damage to either car. It was one of those classic cases of if something else didn't happen, the accident wouldn't have happened. (I left work around 45 mins late because I had to get my paycheck and I ran into a co-worker on his lunch break. If I had left work on time, I wouldn't have crossed paths with the woman I rear ended).

Took a train to Philadelphia. Rented a Trailblazer and drove to King of Prussia. Drove on the highway for the first time since getting my license. Scared the daylights out of myself since I was used to driving a Trailblazer. Plus I had to play bad-azz and had to be cruisin' down I-76 with Power 99 the hip-hop station blasting out of the speakers. Was hyper-ventilating by time I got off the highway. Still hyperventilating by time I reached the King of Prussia Mall. Could barely swallow half my cheeseburger and coke for lunch. Still hyperventilating when I got to my hotel, which was right near the mall. Finally got to relax once I was in my room. Trailblazer remained parked in the hotel's parking lot for the rest of the trip. The people who I was seeing in the area brought me around. - July.

Had a chance encounter with my friend Paul whom I hadn't seen since October. I ran into him when at the spur of the moment I stopped into Buffet 2000 for lunch after work. - August. I was able to get him a job at Price Chopper. Our friendship was resurrected, but it wasn't quite the same as it had been. We were doing a lot of fighting.

Started working overnights as a Cashier at Price Chopper a couple nights a week - October.

Hell froze over again and the evil Redsox Nation won the World series.

Became friends with a cool dude named Tim. - December. We started hanging out regularly.

2008

Evil boss made me miss part of Tim's Superbowl Party by making me come in for a few hours when I stopped in to PC to pick up some snacks for the party. - February. My Giants won the Superbowl.

Fired from Price Chopper after an argument with a customer over the price of a watermelon. - March.

Lost touch with Tim after he got a new job at The Red Cross.

Hired by Walmart in Southington as Cashier. - June.

Started renting a room from a co-worker. - June.

Still hanging out occasionally with Rodent. Occasionally talking with Paul on the phone. His health problems got worse after he left Price Chopper in March.

2009

Took out Rodent for his birthday in March. Picked up Paul who joined us on our excursion to the Meriden Square Mall.

Another friend brought me to WMRD 1150 in Middletown to meet with the owner/GM of the station to discuss the possibility of the station to pick up New York Giants Football. I would've run the board for the games and sell commercials for the games if they had picked up the games, but ultimately they didn't pick up the games citing cost.

My family and I went to my aunt's 60th Birthday Party in Agawam, MA (Feeding Hills). Got to see a cousin I haven't seen in years. (I wish she wasn't my cousin because she's very attractive). - March

Got Paul a job at Walmart in Bristol. - April.

Moved into a new apartment in Bristol - April.

Hung out with Rodent for my birthday. - May. He called Tim and we renewed our friendship. (For a few weeks anyway).

I got knocked on my azz by the flu twice.

Tim changed his phone number so we lost touch again. (He changed it because he and his girlfriend broke up).

Got terminated from Walmart in October, but since I'm eligible for rehire in 90 days my friends and I are calling it a "90 Day Cooling off Period." At this point it looks as if it'll stretch out to at least 120 days because there's a hiring freeze until after inventory in February.

Been going to Illusions Dance Club in Wolcott on occasional Friday Nights with Rodent.

Been on several job interviews with no luck.

Some woman backed into me as I was backing out of a parking space at Ames Plaza in Southington. No damage. She had to have been flying. (It was another if I had done this, that wouldn't have happened. If I went to Dollar Tree like I wanted to I would've still been in the store when this lady was leaving. If I hadn't spent 5 mins playing with the radio she wouldn't have backed into me). - December.

Paul's been hanging out with me quite a bit, tho he's been busy the last 2 weeks because of the holiday. Hopefully I'll see him soon and i can give him his Christmas Gift. He also was sick for a couple days before (and after XMAS).

Family and I went to my aunt and uncles house in Agawam, MA for Christmas Eve. Didn't exchange gifts. They decided not to do gifts anymore. My aunt is 60. My uncle is 66.
