Twilights Revenge (Chapter 2)
James awoke with no recolection of what had happened during the last 24 hours
by Nish Laverz

James turned the car into a residential street and pulled into the drive of one of the semi detached houses. The sun was starting to get low in the sky; he had been on the road all day, just driving around. He often when for long drives on his day off, he found it to be a great way to clear his head after a heard week investigating crime. Turning off the engine he opened the car door, stepped out onto his drive and stretched and yawned, totally unaware of the happenings that day.

Opening the door he saw the message light on his answer machine was flashing. Taking off is shoes and placing them on the rack he pressed the play button to hear the message.
'Crackle, buzz, beep, beeep, beep, buzz,' The sound of a modem or an old computer loading software played for a minute, then the message ended.
'Someone must have miss dialled their connection or something.' he thought walking away from the machine and into his kitchen where he flicked on the kettle and made a cup of coffee. Taking the warm cup he entered his front room turned on the TV, sat down and relaxed for a while.
'Today’s news headlines. A man escapes from police custody, two officers were injured as the man broke free from his cell and somehow managed to get through the secure door to the car park. Our correspondent Nathan Black is at Daglin Police Station where the incident took place.'
Startled, James sat up straight in his seat and listened intently to the report.
'The incident happened at around 1pm in the custody suite here at Daglin Police Station. There are no CCTV images of the incident as the cameras seem to go of about two minutes before, all we know is that the custody Sergeant and a PC were attacked when they went to check on the prisoner, who ran from the cell and somehow managed to escape through the custody suites door leading to the rear car park. He then Stole a police car and escaped. The man is still on the run and is described as around 6'6" muscular build with short black hair and wears red contact lenses. He is extremely dangerous and anyone who sees him should contact the police immediately and are advised not to approach him.'
James Jumped out of his seat pulled his mobile from his pocket and frantically dialled a number, his hands fumbling as he did so. Putting the phone to his ear he heard nothing but a busy tone. Trying a different number the same happened. Each number he tried including the police stations general enquiry number was engaged. Then the thought that it could have been him that had been hurt came into his head. Sitting back down he tried to remember all he could about the prisoner, he knew that he knew something but could not put his finger on it, in fact even though he knew he should know the face he could not picture him in any incidents that he had dealt with. ‘I know his face but were from?’ He sat for the next few hours trying to put the face to a crime, but it was no use he just could not place the man at all. Giving it up as a bad job James turned off the TV and headed for his bed. Without thinking he set his alarm laid down and was asleep in seconds.

*****

James awoke to his alarm, it was still dark outside, this did not seem to bother him as he quikely put on his clothes and whent down stairs, putting on his shoes he picked up his car keys and headed out of the door, opened the car and got in.
Starting the car he reversed out of the drive and headed for his destination. The streets were quiet at this time of the morning, not much traffic on the roads, the only pedestrians were the stragglers heading home from the pubs or heading to the night club for an hour or two more drinking. Taking a left turn he left the urban streets and headed onto the rural roads of the surrounding countryside. He drove for about an hour then turned sharply into the enterence of the industrial estate. Unaware of his surroundings James pulled up outside the warehouse, got out of the car and headed for the entrance, where he entered and made his way through the dark dingy corridors. This time though he did not open the wall he had before, he just headed to some stairs and made his way towards a window at the end of the dark landing. Placing his hand on a door it opened reveiling the silloette of a man straped to what looked like a dentists chair, the dark shadows in the windowless room opscuring his features. James moved through the darkness his vision hightened in a hightened state. Taking a bottle of something and a suringe from a draw in on of the rooms dark corners he walked over to the man, Filled the suringe with the liquid, placed the neadle in the mans arm and proceded to inject him. The body jerked and thrashed in the chair, the restraints only just holding it down. His eyes opened and looked percing into James' who did not flinch he just kept his own eyes focused on the man and said 'It is time.' as he released the restraints. The man stood up looked around then back at James. They then left the room heading through the dark corridors and to the car.
