The stars shone, like a crystal chandelier in the night sky, as a lone figure made his way through the shadows. It had just turned twelve midnight and his thirst was starting to show itself. He hadn't had a meal in days now, he was starting to wonder if he would ever feed again.
Something in the alley ahead caught his eye. Movement and voices, he slowly edged forward, being careful to stay hidden in the shadows. Pushing his back up against the cold wall of a building he watched as two men attacked a young woman. Something inside him stirred, old feelings surfaced, but he could not identify what it was. He felt an urge, jumped out of the shadows diving onto one of the men sinking his teeth into his neck. The warm metallic taste of the blood running through him filled him with a happiness only his kind could know. Dropping the man’s lifeless body he turned to face the second man who on seeing his face ran faster than he had ever run before screaming as he did.

Turning to the young woman, he bent down beside her unconscious body and placed is jaw round her neck. As he tried to sink his teeth into her flesh, he could not, they retracted. Startled by this he jumped back and looked at her trying to work out what just happened. Then something strange happened, his fangs retracted to a point where they looked like normal teeth his red eyes turned brown and his skin showed signs of colour.

That was the day a vampire became human again.
