Floating That Waterfall

Life always stages a challenge.
We must decide to avoid or lunge,
Into the dark unknown.
It is there we are alone.
To our own devices we depend,
To what result will we transcend?
On a rainy day I chose to test,
A waterfall displaying its anger and crest.
With brother Tom by my side,
We chose to challenge that watery riptide!
Off we went in a rubber raft.
Our goal the Waterfall we'd draft!
Quickly we realized the dangers of rapid water.
Pitching high and low, we had no armor.
Side to side we did roll.
We were never in control.
Our craft was at the mercy of the course.
We instantly filled with remorse.
We both knew we were out of our depth and zone.
Would we survive to atone?
The banks of that flow we scraped.
God guided us, as we escaped.
Time after time, yet the Fall was still ahead.
Maybe we could prevent our bloodshed!
Before we were prepared for that fall,
Into the arms of the watery blast our raft did brawl.
Over the spewing water we were cast.
Tom and I knew this might be our last,
Waking hour on earth.
We had unfortunately chosen the present berth.
All went blank, were to die in this fluid grave?
Would He our careless souls save?
We'd chosen irresponsibly to be bold.
Would we go to our God with hopes our bodies to hold?
Some great distance from our entry point,
Tom and I found the surface, it was the endpoint!
To our relief, Boss Florian, rescued these floating beings.
That moment in time we'd seen all our failings.
Boss was the champion that day.
Beyond the rescue he bought lunch following the fray.
He'd also captured the scene on video for all,
To see and prove that these fools did survive the pitfall.
Now forty some years after that episode,
My accepted challenges all have mellowed!
But by His grace I survived the Fall to tell the yarn.
I use that experience as a story to forewarn.
That experience with grand babies I often share,
Don't be easily challenged by a dare!
