Haiku of a Sisyphean Squirrel Struggle
This is a spontaneous haiku I wrote, in response to a haiku written by my WDC friend Peach

Fear in squirrel's eyes,
Reflecting yellow monster
Hot upon its tail,

Pursuing its prey,
Salivating hungrily,
Sprinting like the wind.

Knowing for certain,
That THIS time he will succeed--
Memory? Not great.

Gears begin to turn
In squirrel's walnut-sized brain,
Dashes straight up tree.

Claws dig into bark,
Forming vertical foothold,
Eluding canine.

Propelling squirrel
Toward safe, leafy haven--
Inaccessible

To domestic beasts
Living in brick buildings with
Strange, hairless bipeds.

Yellow lab, downcast
Face droops in disappointment.
Hey, look! A rabbit!!!
