Discussion Topic

1. I mentioned above how dialogue seems to flow easily from pen to paper for some writers and many others consciously avoid it. How would you rate your comfort level in writing dialogue?
Rate yourself from 1 to 10, 1 as strong, 5 as mediocre, and 10 as avoiding it at all costs.
If you scored yourself below a 5, share with us what works well for you.
If you scored yourself 5 or above, share your anxiety with us. Do you think the material in the lesson will help you in the future?

2. Have you ever read your dialogue passages out loud, played the parts of your characters to get it just right?

3. When you read about subtext in the lesson above, was the term familiar to you? Is subtext something you've read and written yourself without ever realizing it?

(1.)I would score myself a 4. I obviously am not perfect at dialogue. I do have a big mouth and like to talk and have conversations with others. I write dialogue the same way I talk and the way others talk. I have had experience with a varity of cultures and locales and it seems to come naturally to me. I guess we'll see if the instructors feel it is natural.

If not, then I will learn how to write dialogue properly.

The materials in the lessons will be invaluable in my future writing. I keep a copy on my computer and print a hard copy to keep in a notebook for reference. I found from Sunrise Class how much this helps. I continually go back to them for help.

(2.)I always read my dialogue passages out loud and I live the parts of my characters as I write them. Many times this leads to changing a vital part of the story or leads to another story entirely.

(3)Subtext was an new term to me. I have read things containing subtext without knowing what it was called. I am unsure if I've ever written anything with subtext. I would have to review all my work to see. If I did, I did it unknowingly.
