Gabrielle was crouched in a corner of her room, eyes wide with terror as the voices continued to rise in the living room. She put her hands over her ears hoping to shut out the hatred she could hear in her father's voice.

"You bitch, that's my money!" Dad exclaimed.

"I don't have money for the kids clothes and school starts next week," Mom said.

"They'll just have to wear what they have," he spat.

"No, you and your whore will have to miss a few nights out on the town!" Mom yelled.

Tears ran freely down Gabrielle' s face as she held her younger sister close to her.

The sound of her father's hand slapping her mother seemed loud as a gunshot. Both girls trembled.

"I said that money is mine!" Dad screamed as he threw Mom against the wall.

Gabrielle and Maryssa darted out the door when they heard Mom call, "Run girls! Get help!"

Dad barely noticed them as they raced past him and out the door with his hands clutched around Mom's neck in a death grip.

Neither girl looked back as they raced to a neighbor's home.

I chose #2 here. I am not sure I did this correctly though.
