The ambulance turned into the disused industrial estate pulling up outside the derelict looking warehouse. Flinging open the backdoors the two men that had posed as paramedics carried James and Sara out of the ambulance and into the warehouse.
Placing his hand on the scanner in the darkened corridor the man carrying James stepped back and waited as the wall opened. Light flashed and cogs turned grinding against each other as the wall slid apart revealing the bright, airy interior beyond. Repositioning James on his shoulder he followed his colleague into the newly reviled hanger sized room. It was bustling with activity, people working on computers and checking equipment. James and Sara were placed on beds in the middle of the room and a group of people in white coats swarmed round them, attaching various pieces of equipment to them, collecting what data they needed and talking amongst themselves. ‘Everything looks OK; I cannot see any reason why he should have collapsed like this, his brain wave Patten looks like it should if he was active.’ A woman said turning to the tall man who had made his way down the stairs from the level above them. ‘You’re saying he’s active yet unconscious? So is he uncontrollable?’ ‘Looks like it sir, I’ve tried giving him instructions but nothings happening.’ ‘Can you fix it?’ ‘Not sure we’ll need to run more tests. What you want doing with the girl?’ ‘Give her a memory modification, make her think she went to the hospital with him and send her back to work, make sure you program her to say he’s not allowed any visitors.’ ‘OK Sir.’ The woman replied before turning back to the others and giving out instructions. Splitting into two groups they moved James and Sara across the room and into two smaller rooms that resembled hospital cubicles. Sara was hooked up to a machine, probes placed on her temples, ear phones over her ears and what looked at first glance like an ordinary pair of glasses placed over her eyes. The machine next to her was turned on, buzzing into action. James had been hooked up to a group of machines as the people in white coats tried to figure out what had gone wrong. Checking the readouts and noting down anything they thought to be of interest or use in their search for an answer what had caused James to end up like this. ***** ‘Knock Knock’ ‘Come in’ the tall man who had spoke to the medic earlier said. The door creaked open. ‘We’ve located his parents Sir; I’ve sent Twilight Five and Six to deal with them. What do you want done?’ A young woman said as she walked into the wood clad office ‘Thank you Twilight Ten. Tell Five and Six to make them believe they have been to see him in the hospital. Send Twilight One out with the mobile unit to meet them in a safe location.’ ‘Will do Sir.’ The young woman said turning to walk back to her post. ***** A white car pulled round the corner into an ordinary tree lined residential street, pulling up outside one of the many properties positioned along it. The two occupants looked from the house to their sat nav and then back to the house before looking at each other. ’Looks right.’ The passenger said. ‘I’ll radio HQ to tell them we’re here.’ The driver replied placing his hand on his radio.’ Twilight Five to Twilight HQ we have arrived at our destination. Any further instructions?’ ‘Tell them that James is in the hospital and you are here to take them to see him. Then when they are in the car sedate them, you need to make sure that they believe they have seen him in the hospital. The sedative should be instant acting and last for around 3 hours. You must drive round to the rendezvous point I’ve sent to your sat nav. Twilight One and Two will meet you there with the mobile kit.’ ‘Received, over and out.’ The driver replied before removing his hand from this radio, picking up a hat off the back seat and getting out of the car. Placing the hat on his head he walked round the car to his colleague and they both walked towards the house they had parked outside of. Checking the door and frame the man who had been driving spotted a door bell, pressed it and the pair waited for someone to come and answer. A minute or so passed before they heard someone on the other side of the door fumbling with the lock. The door opened slightly and a gray haired man peered through the gap he had made. ‘David Sanderson?’ ‘That’s me. Who’s asking?’ ‘PC Reed and PC Granger,’ one of the men said holding up a warrant card so the man could see it through the gap. ‘May we come in? It’s about James.’ The door opened fully. ‘What’s happened? Is he alright?’ ‘He’s in the hospital; we’re here to take you to see him. Is Mrs Sanderson here?’ ‘She’s upstairs, I’ll go and get her.’ The old man said turning towards the stairs. ‘Dorothy love, can you come downstairs?’ He shouted up them. A gray haired woman appeared at the top of the stairs. ‘What is it love?’ She asked looking over the banister. Seeing the two police officers stood with her husband she came down the stairs as quick as she could. ‘What is it, what’s happened?’ she said, shock cracking her voice. ‘Please Mrs Sanderson, sit down.’ One of the Police offices said pointing to the open door to the front room where they had been heading. Turing to his colleague he said something so the Sanderson’s could not hear. ‘Which way is the kitchen.’ The other officer asked. Through the door at the end of the corridor Mr. Sanderson said pointing to a closed door. Turning the officer headed for the kitchen. ‘It’s James isn’t it? What’s happened? Is he alright?’ Mrs Sanderson asked as she sat down her voice shaky and cracking as she spoke. ‘He collapsed while on a case, he’s unconscious.’ Tears welled up in Mrs Sanderson’s eyes as she tried to speak. ‘W-w-what-t c-cause-ed h-im t-to c-colap-pse?’ ‘No one knows, they are running tests.’ Replied the Police officer as his colleague entered the room holding two cups. ‘Drink this; it’ll help with the shock.’ He said, handing them to Mr and Mrs Sanderson. Taking the cups without question they drank the contents. ‘Thank you.’ Mrs Sanderson said her voice steadier than before. ‘I feel better already.’ The phone rang and as Mrs Sanderson got up to answer it one of the officers picked it up and spoke, his voice sounding just like Mrs Sanderson. He listened to what was said and replied with appropriate answers. Placing the handset down he turned and said something to his colleague before turning to Mr and Mrs Sanderson. "James is still unconscious but stable enough for visitors. We should make our way to the hospital."
