Between the evening and morning
When the night has begun to creep
Comes the time for all children
To snuggle in bed and sleep.

I hear the sounds of the shower
As they are getting all squeaky clean
And voices beginning to shout now
“Mom, Sissie’s being mean!”

I go to the end of the stairway
Yelling for them to behave.
Rebecca giggles and runs by,
Kim and Tim just smile, and wave.

They quickly begin their con game
To wrangle “just a few minutes more”
Some TV and maybe a snack now
Or some water they’ll spill on the floor.

I have to be firm with them all though
Because they just won’t go to bed.
Before I know it it’s midnight
And with no sleep, the morning I’ll dread.

So I’ll kiss them and tuck them in tightly
And read them a story or two
Then we’ll say our prayers and good nights
Making sure then to say “I love you!”

It's the nightly routine at our house,
I know that one day they'll be gone.
When they're all grown up and moved out,
I will be quite alone!

So all of these moments I'll cherish--
Their antics and endearing ploys.
Too soon they'll reach adulthood.
This is the season of joys!
