The prairie moon’s shining, the whispering winds call Much better days I have seen For this old cowboy’s been at it too long I’ve done this since I was thirteen. The years that I’ve spent in the hot desert sun Have taken their toll on my life Cowpokin’s not easy when you’re sixty-one Alone now with no kids nor wife. There's been transformations, some good and some bad, America’s heartland’s seen change. There was once a time and a place in the west When our home was truly the range. My horse has been traded for an old pickup truck. He’s out in the barn eatin’ hay. My days of wranglin’ have come to a halt. I need to saddle up and ride away. Well, it’s time to hang up my hat This old cowpoke is now through With ropin’ and fencin’ and ridin’ the range And all of the life I once knew.
