WHITE MAN’S BURDEN
O white man, O white lady, White man’s burden you bear, As you come to distant lands, With non-whites your thoughts share. What magnanimous outlook! You tell them happy news: “God’s Son will deliver you From the vile devil’s noose.” What foolishness on their part! They refuse to listen And persist with their own god. By devil they’re driven. With what heavy heart you must Inflict wild cruelties On the ignorant souls who Don’t listen to your pleas! To the Son, the Cross, you bring The lost and wayward sheep. For this service to them their Lands and riches, you keep! * Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format M C Gupta 4 February 2010
