It's My Birthday and I Worked!
by Steve Cope
my 54th Birthday story on 12-09-09
02-11-2010

It was my birthday three months ago
And as usual off to work I had to go.
Before that my wife did give me a present
Which makes the whole thing heaven sent.

I was not expecting a thing at work
Sometimes birthdays are put on the marquee
For all the world to see
But nope, I didn't even get a fork.

So into the hallway I walk to clock in
Looking up an envelope I do see, stuck on balloons with a pin.
Not sure if it's for me I make inquiry
And sure enough I got balloons and a card, wow that's coolie.

A lot of peeps signed the card
And to stop from crying it was hard.
It wasn't over yet don't you see
I had one more surprise over the PA, oh me!

Happy birthday they did sing,
Let me say for most singing was not their thing.
But when it was all said and done
I did have some fun.

I was checking the customers out
And I did have to stifle a pout.
Cause I'm a softy ti's true
And my favorite color is blue.

It was my birthday and I worked
Before I did go the wife did make me dinner
And when I got to work I was surprised, but not any thinner.
Because it was my birthday and my co-workers efforts worked.

There was no marquee sign
Documenting a birthday of mine;
But in the end when all was said and done;
From home, to sleep, to awake, to work, I had so much fun.
