Character Traits
An exericse in looking over past assignments to estabish character mannerisms

In my first two assignments, I didn’t notice that I had repeated the same trait, but I do think I have a few that show Jason as being nervous, or what he does when he’s nervous in these situations. He runs his fingers through his hair; a rubs his beard; he tries to brush dried blood off of his boots; he rubs his eyes as he tries to think of what he should do.

Although both of these assignments were fairly short, I think that there may be more I could add as far as character traits as discussed in this lesson. Rubbing the back of his neck while he’s thinking could show is confusion at how his life wound up taking this turn.

He needs to be indecisive and to show that his life now is drastically different than how he planned it. Also, his relationship with his grandfather, and his perceived relationship with the other guys in the club both seem like very close relationships to him, but they are at two different ends of the spectrum. His relationship with his grandfather was taking him on the “right” path, and his belief in his brothers in the club have taken him down the “wrong” path.

While I haven’t decided exactly how the story will end yet, I think the things in this lesson are really important to remember. For instance, to have Jason run out and throw a hail of gunfire at the police who are trying to apprehend him wouldn’t ring true. I’ll be really thinking about his mannerisms and such to make sure they are true to his character as I write the ending of this story.
