I stood at the top of the Stairway to Hell.
I could smell the sulphur and pitch. The smoke from the fires and the eternal flame Made my ethereal body wretch and twitch. I had lived all of my lifetime pleasing just me, No thought to my immortal soul. And now at the end I gazed down at the sight Of what I would now eternally hold. Satan had me in the palm of his hand. I was a doomed and miserable man. Forever to burn in this great lake of fire Seemed my plight and Old Beelzebub’s plan. Desolation and suffering rose like a cloud Assailing my nostrils and eyes. I was overwhelmed with sounds of the damned As they moaned sadly and uttered loud cries. I took the first step to the black and dark place Where I would reside evermore. Then I was awakened to find it a dream. Welcomed relief flooded me to the core. I called out to God, something I’d never done, That He’d save a sinner like me. He answered my prayer, and gave me a new life. For the first time I am happy and free. Now I know where I will spend all eternity His grace gave me a great reprieve He saved me there at the Stairway to Hell From His precious side I will never leave.
