Stairway To Hell

Little did she know of things to come
when a chance meeting with a blue-eyed
swashbuckler from far across the sea,
opened vistas of unforgettable beauty

to her trusting, naive, innocent eyes.
The moonlit night, shimmering silver,
soft breeze, and the gently lapping water,
the stream mirroring their entwined selves,

wove a net of magical enchantment around her.
When he kissed her deep and pressed her close
whispering romantic praises of ardor and joy,
her world changed into an Eden of painful delight.

Soaring into starlit skies of immortal beauty,
she lost the sense of time and space, as days dawned
in sunlit ebullience, nights swayed to sweet symphonies.
Unaware of the plot of jealous Gods and tricky fate,

she basked in the warm glow of love’s splendor.
Their fate forked on a fateful day of dismay and
disaster when his raft capsized in the turbulent blue.
Stairway to hell gaped before her grief-stricken gaze.
