New Prompt! I bet you didn’t know that tomorrow will be “Be Humble Day.” Write a story or poem and title it Humble Pie HUMBLE PIE! My most recent Humble Pie was. in fact, a REAL PIE! Baked to serve at my dear hubby's office Thanksgiving feast--thank God he was the BOSS and my cooking didn't matter, much! I carefully stirred all of the cooked pumpkin and spices together until hot and steamy, and then tore off on some unknown mission. Upon arriving home, my pan was empty and in the sink; the "finished" simple pie sat proudly in its shell. My jubilant husband earnestly said "I finished your pie--it's on the stove!" Suspiciously, I eyed the flat, brown pie. The recipe called for it to be a high, airy pumpkin-meringue pie. I sweetly inquired how he had put the whipped-egg-and-sugar-meringue into the mixture, only to be met by a blank stare. Due at the festive office party a scant 90-minutes later, we hurriedly scraped the cooled pumpkin mix out of the homemade shell to mix swiftly with my now-beaten-to-a-froth-sugar-and- egg-white-concoction. We dashed out the front door, clutching pie in hand, and made the 60-minute drive to the dinner with seconds to spare. The humble pie, despite the fact that it was so unconventionally and frantically assembled, turned out just fine!
