This poem is about the Greek goddess Persephone.

In the dark she whimpers.

In the dark she shrieks.

In the dark she is lost.

Always alone in the dark.

In the light she smiles.

In the light she sings.

In the light she is happy.

Always content in the light.

The earth sorrows in her absence.

But the fault is her own.

She was foolish.

She was asinine.

She was wrong.

And now she is lost.

Lost alone in the dark.

The birds don’t sing,

The trees don’t grow,

The flowers don’t bloom,

Until Persephone is found.
