A LOST LOVE: a sonnet
This sea on whose shore I do walk today, Trotting pensively, watching gentle waves, Was not so calm that day it took away My wife and I learnt how it ill behaves. I was then a newly married husband; She was proud of her aquatic prowess. She went out swimming far away from sand, So that she may by her tactics impress. She went too far and was overpowered By a wave that rose like a tsunami. My warning calls to her remained unheard. She went away not to come back to me. To meet her again I don’t find a way. For her on the shore I do walk today. • Written as Shakespearean sonnet. M C Gupta 24 February 2010
