CROSSING THE BORDER OF THE UNKNOWN
Crossing the border of the unknown worlds, As I was dreaming in my sleep last night, While swimming across interstellar space, I had a feeling of freedom, delight. As I alighted on a new planet And walked through its garden, cherry laden, While peeping through the blooming red roses, I came across a beautiful maiden. What struck me was that somehow I did know Her looks and face and had a feeling faint That she too loved me deep inside her heart. I had an intuition that was quaint. That she was none but my own dearest wife, It dawned upon me in a state of dream I had lost her full fourteen years ago. I let out, out of joy, almost a scream. * Written in pentameter as abcb quatrains. * Written for “The Writer's Cramp!” contest, "The Writer's Cramp" • The prompt for this poem was to start it with the words “Crossing the border of the unknown””.
