Canyons of Light

A lambent glow
glistens off dragon scale windows,
rainbow hued in the morning radiance,
a play of light and dark in the
caverns below...

A waking city stretches into its
daily routine, hoarding it's treasure
of people who scurry about...

The sun meanders lazily across
the sky,  each minute painting
new cave art on the towering
edifices , unappreciated by
the inhabitants, but beautiful
in the eyes of the universe.

Like a fledgling pushed from
its nest, the sun withdraws
it's luminous hands - but the
city shines on...
  an inner glow
      a self assurance
illuminates the darkness
and proclaims its independence.
A light in the darkness.
  A promise to the future.
