The wide, rolling expanse of hillside terrain
Stretches countless miles in all directions, Where a remote, inconspicuous countryside fixture, Rustic, weathered, lowly fences, Divide the monotonous, sunny, And windswept geography. The landscape features an occasional, Partially spotted cow or sleek, modestly built horse Hemmed in by the sturdy wooden posts And dangling, metal wire. Both sides of the dry, truncated landscape Host the buildings, solitary creatures, And delineated property boundaries Of the sparse and isolated countryside, Traversed by temporarily closed gates, Conspicuous, gravelly dirt roads, And a paved, two-lane highway Which permits traffic through the desolate And permanently dissected region - Where these rural fences make their Unobstructed, dutiful home...
