Contest Rules

Thank you for taking the time to consider entering a submission into the 2010 edition of March Madness!. This contest is sponsored by the "Reviewing Reviewers [E], and we look forward to seeing your very best work in this contest. With your work, our judges, and not a little bit of luck from our mascot, Fergus, you will have an exciting time in the next days. But first, you must understand the rules of the contest. They are not many, but they are important. We do take them very seriously. So does Fergus! Anything to keep you from his Pot of Gold, Fergus likes--a lot!

There aren't many rules, but they must be followed. If you have any questions, please post your questions here and we will respond to you as quickly as possible.

Rule #1

This is a juried contest. All decisions by our judges are final. Disqualification for rules violation is, unfortunately, unappealable. All entries in this contest must qualify as no higher rating than +18. Ratings for submitted entries must meet the ratings requirements for entries. Please review the rating requirements prior to submissions here

Rule #2

Multiple submissions are permitted for this contest by the same author, but only under certain conditions. Contestants may enter more than one category, and may win in more than one category, but only with one original entry winner per category. In other words, if you wish to enter more than one category, you must create original work for each category. Each submission must be entered into one category only. Each entry may win only one prize per category, with the exception of the Grand Prize Winner, which may be awarded to any submission in the contest.

Rule #3

Submissions will be open from 0001 on Wednesday, March 17th, 2010. Submissions will be closed at2359 on March 31st, 2010. (All times are WDC time (GMT-5, Eastern Time-USA). Entries will be via bitem link ONLY, and posted as a post in this forum. If you are not sure how to use the {bitem:xxxxxxx} format, you can find an excellent example and instructions here  .
The category of your submission must be in the Subject of your post. #1, #3D, etc. is fine. Just make sure you have it correctly identified prior to the judging of the submissions.

Rule #4

Submissions may be edited by the author once submitted, until the submission deadline. NO submission editing will be permitted once the submission deadline has passed, or that submission will be disqualified from the contest. Unfortunately, there can be no allowance on this rule for appeal. (Once the work is done, you must let it stand on it's own merits! *Smile* )

Rule #5

Judging forms will be submitted to the Contest Leader Budroe is Blessed! anonymously. Those forms will be forwarded, upon the conclusion of the Contest to each contestant for the item(s) submitted. Each category of submission will reviewed by judges who are recognized for their work in the specific genre of that category, as well as the general membership of the "Reviewing Reviewers [E] group on WDC. Reviews prior to the submission deadline will be public, and affiliated with the group and this contest. Public reviews by our group membership will be worth 50% of the total score for each submission. The committee of Judges for each category will then provide critical analysis of each submitted work after the review deadline, which will be worth another 50% of the total score for each submission. From all entries in each category, a determination will be made by the judges for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Honorable Mentions may be, but not are required to be listed by our panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded for each winner, as well as "incidental" prizes, awards, Merit Badges, Award Icons, and/or GPs for entries as determined by our official contest mascot, or the leadership team/managers of the contest as they may choose. No such award is required to be awarded.

Membership Reviews: 50% of total score based upon public reviews scoring system (0-5 stars) .(Prior to submission deadline) This is an accumulated average score: Total number of submission Public Reviews points (Total number of stars received for the submission prior to deadline) x 10% for a maximum of 50 points total. This means that every public review will have a significant effect on the outcome score for that particular submitted work. The more members of "Reviewing Reviewers [E] that create a public review of the submitted work, the greater the contribution score will be from the member reviews.

Judges Evaluations: 50% of total score based on a 0-100 numeric result (total numeric score / 2 for a maximum of 50 points
Total submission score for the contest: (1-x) points as provided both by our membership and our judges.

Example:

Submission X receives 10 public reviews from RR members and other WDC members. Total stars=44. Average score = 44/10, or 4.4. This will become the "Review Factor" for the final submission Score.
Submission X receives three Judges scores: 88, 91, and 89 (268 Total) x 10%= 26.8

FINAL SUBMISSION SCORE: 26.8 X 4.4 = 1,179.2

Highest Score wins.

This insures maximum exposure for submitted work, maximum participation by both our members and our judges. We believe this will give the most accurate possible evaluation of your work. (It's really simpler than it sounds, but Fergus got his fingers into the pot...what can I say? He's a Leprechaun, after all. It's in his nature.)

Rule #6

All entries (except Options B, D) are to be not less than 2,000 or more than 2,500 words. Entries that have +/- 10% of the required Word Count total may be, at the Judges' discretion, evaluated or disqualified from the contest. Judges may accept overages or underages IF, in their determination, the quality of the work is not diminished as a result of the word count. It is, in the final analysis, your writing quality which will most impress our panel, not your ability to add words. Deductions for missing the Word Count requirements may be given, at the judges' discretion. Entries must be original writing for this contest, and may not have received awards of any kind prior to their submission to this contest.

Rule #7

Submissions will be evaluated on a "Publication Ready" basis. Please keep this in mind, as some of our judging panel actually are publishers and editors. The only exception is that we will not be requiring manual format submission requirements. However, proper formatting within the entry is expected, as well as other "usual" publication ready expectations are to be followed. (Mechanics, grammar, spelling, punctuation, spacing, etc.)

General Rules and Guidelines

*Gold*          All contest entries must not exceed the WDC rating of "+18", or the submission will be disqualified by our Judges. Because some of our entrants are children, we do take this statement seriously.

*Gold*          Any entry disqualified for any reason may not be considered for winning a prize. You may not edit your work, then resubmit for the contest. This is a one-time shot for your very best, "publication ready" work.

*Gold*           You may have multiple entries in the contest, but you may enter only one entry per category.

*Gold*          Judging will be done by a panel of Judges, whose individual critical evaluations will be written anonymously. Only after the contest is completed and closed will you be told the Judge's name for your evaluations. You want honest evaluations, and these judges have been specifically chosen because of their experise in the fields they judge. Reviews may be given. If so, they will be given publicly, according to the guidelines established by the "Reviewing Reviewers [E].

*Gold*          Word count limits will be enforced for this contest. Original creatives will be checked. No "shopped", ripped, or free (or paid, for that matter) images may be used in your submission. Failure to follow the form of the category will result in point deductions, or disqualification.

*Gold*          Improper or incomplete submissions or submission information will result in the submission being rejected. You will be notified by a contest manager, and we will help you get the correct information to re-submit your work. Complete category information must be included in your Subject header for posting your submission. Any specific information required by the category must be provided in the body of your submission post. Accurate word counts and other specific information must be listed first inside the body of your submission.

*Gold*          The winners for each category will receive their prizes at the same time the Grand Prize Winner will receive their prizes, if not before. If you are a winner, and have not received ALL your prizes by April 21st, 2010, please notify the contest manager, Budroe is Blessed! and the team will help you get your prizes. (Reviews are at the behest of the gifter, so special arrangements may have to be made with them.)

*Gold*          If you win, or do not win a category prize, there is a chance for you to win the overall Grand Prize. That prize will be selected by the entire judging committee from all entries submitted to the contest. As in the other winning prizes, you may not edit your work after the submission entry deadline, until all winners have been announced.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments on these rules, please email me immediately, and I will do whatever I can to assist you. Good luck on this exciting journey, and

Write Well!
