Contestant's Category Information

Hello there!

This is the second stop along the way to me Pot of Gold! If ye want me loot, ye got to choose carefully now. What kind of writing will ye be a givin' Ole Fergus now? How will it be lookin'? Fare carefully here, now. Choose wisely, and ye'll be one huge step closer to me bounty in the Pot-O-Gold! Read the information below, and decide which category(s) you might be a'writin', okay?

Category #1: "Why and How I Review"

This is a personal non-fiction essay, written in the first person POV, and is to be original creative writing for this contest. The work should be persuasive, explanatory, and ground-breaking in it's theme. Conclusions should be well-founded, supported, and with a conclusion that compels agreement. Comparisons with others or other copyrighted work should be avoided at all costs. From beginner to expert, we all have our way of reviewing other writers' work. Your winning essay will be a completely fresh approach in either style, manner or technique to the topic. Scholarly work will be accepted, so long as it has not been published, or contracted for publication.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will receive prizes. Honorable Mentions may be awarded as well, at the discretion of our Judges.

Category #2: "Create YOUR New Holiday"

There are TWO options for this category. Contestants may choose ONLY one of the two for each submissions. Submissions (1 each) may be submitted for each option by each contestant, but they must be properly identified as to which option you are entering.

         Option 2A
Create a complete fiction work which announces, describes, attributes, and explains the ways, places, times and reasons to celebrate the newest holiday, which you have been given the assignment by your government to create for your population. This is creative fiction, and will be judged from those criteria established by the judges for creative fiction writing. Your submission should be as complete as possible, within the word count limits established for this contest (2,000-2,500). Specificity counts! Your winning submission will leave your reader wanting this new holiday more than any other on the calendar!

OR

         Option 2B

This option will be your submittal of a completely graphical nature. You can create original banners, headlines, buttons, dividers, bullets, announcements, posters, or any other graphics which completely explain your new holiday. This option is especially suited to the Graphics Artist, with the eye to explanation in art. No more than ten (10) graphics (WDC capable minus webpages or web elements) will be permitted in your submission, and no verbiage apart from the art will be permitted. All submitted work must be ORIGINAL, and created by your own hands. No free, clip, or stock photo art will be accepted. (Yes, we can and we WILL check!) It is left to your discretion as to how the art is presented for consideration (Web page, multiple links in your bitem main page, etc.) The visual effect is the overall scope of the judges consideration, but any single/combined elements will be judged on the technical merits of the Graphic Arts by our especially chosen Judges for these submissions. GA's must include Option "2C" in your subject. Your post body must include the program (Paint, TheGimp, Adobe, etc.) with which your work was created. The subject body must also include which format your submitted work is created with: Vector, Raster, 3D,etc.. Images must conform, or have sizing limitation options to conform with WDC image restrictions for both pixel dimensions and Kb size. You may use links in youor submission, but they must remain within the writing.com domain. (No hosted image sites, please.).

First, Second, and Third Place winners will be determined from among BOTH options. Honorable Mentions may be awarded, at the discretion of our Judging Panels.

Category #3: "My Leprechaun Story"

OPTION 3C

This submission will be creative fiction, told from the First Person POV of a Leprechaun. You may title your entry as you wish. Historical accuracy must be adhered to in the telling of your story. The word count limits will be strictly enforced for this category. No Science Fiction, Fantasy Fiction, or Fan-Fic, please. Leprechauns are very real, and you can prove it! Your winning submission will leave your reader searching for the Leprechaun in their house, or wherever the most likely place to find a Leprechaun might be. Submission may be by bitem link ONLY. Do NOT post your work in your submission post, or it will sadly be deleted, with no notification to the author. This will be your ONLY notice. Please take it seriously. Nobody wants to blitz your hard work and potentially eliminate it from this contest. Your work will fall within the word count guidelines previously explained, and will compel your reader to believe that yours is not a typical Leprechaun, but is in fact the very first one ever to be seen in real life, right here on WDC. (Fergus won't like that--at all!)

OR

OPTION 3D
This submission will be in either epic or poetic prose forms. Entries may not extend beyond fifty (50) lines. The form must be followed, as the Judges will be evaluating to the forms of either epic poetry or poetic prose. Failure to follow form will be grounds for disqualification from the contest, at the Judges' sole discretion. It is our wish that every WDC member have the opportunity to enter the contest. We originally determined this contest would not have poetry available. Interest from members led to this option becoming available. We hope to see many qualitifed submissions. You should indicate your category as "3D" in your submission subject, and identify in your bitem link post the form you have chosen.

The rules for options A, B above apply to submissions to Options C, D here. Multiple submissions from the same contestant are allowed, but only one submission for each option.
First, Second, and Third Place winners will be determined from among BOTH options. Honorable Mentions may be awarded, at the discretion of our Judging Panels.

Well, there ye have it! Three different ways to catch me gold! Which will be the best for you? Is there one that lights your creative juices? Or, maybe there is more than one that sets yer kilt ta glowin'. Choose your strength first, would be me advice to ye. Get one solid piece submitted and THEN work on a second (or third, for you stress-driven lads and lassies) entry. Be careful with ye times, though. I won't be lettin' anybody lag late in the forest. They's creatures aplenty here!

If you have any questions, please contact the contest manager or the contest leader Sara♥Jean and we'll get you on course. Good luck with your amazing journey. There's one more stop along the way. You should visit there after you understand the information on this page. (Don't worry, we've left a trail for you a little further into the forest.)

For the team,
