THE SAGE SAT BUT COULD NOT THINK
An acrostic poem inspired by a picture for a contest.

The wise old man
He sat on a rock
Eagerly waiting for inspiration
Sorry to say
A blank was before him
God –
Even he
Said nothing
And
The wise old man’s
Blank
Undermined his cherished conviction
That patient waiting
Could
Open ways of inspiration and
Understanding
Leading him to
Declare with satisfaction that
Not to be or
Think, was the Way. Yes!
That was the best
He felt it was his
Inspiration of the day!
Not to be! – That he
Knew, was the way!
