Take Me To The River

They held me in their hands,
Waiting for the clouds to part,
Waiting for their legs to acclimate to the cold,
Steadying themselves in the current.
Then someone said “three”
And they let go,
And I drifted like a cloud.
A puff of smoke
Lingering like the morning fog over the water.
Caught by the wind,
Caught by the waves
I rushed forth.
Forever one with the river,
Forever one with their hands.
Some sat down.
Some chased along with the flow.
Forever one with the current,
Forever one with their hands,
Never having to say goodbye
The river took us all.
