No Way Out (1st Place)
Rated: 13+ | Short Story | Thriller/Suspense | #1661803
Mary was kidnapped and repeatedly raped. She needed courage. It was all up to her.
“You aren’t going anywhere.” Drake tilted his head and laughed. He backhanded Mary. She fell limply to the floor, then cowered in a corner, unable to speak. Blood ran from her mouth.

Drake glowered at her then strutted around the old cabin. He paused just before entering the kitchen. “Don’t even think about it honey. There’s not a soul around for twenty miles, and the wolves and bears would eat you before you’d get five miles.”

What was I thinking trusting him? Even home was better than this. The last two weeks have been a nightmare. I must escape.

She could hear Drake rummaging around. She looked about the sparsely furnished room -- A couch, two chairs, a fireplace… and a bed... She shuddered just looking at it. A poker leaned against the wall.

Perhaps I could use that? Surprise him? No. He’d just take it from me. He’s too strong and I’m too weak. He was right. Even if I somehow managed to kill him, there’s no way I’d make it back. I need to contact someone, but how? No radio. It took two days to hike here. No vehicle.
Wait.
Mary’s mind swam. He had a cell phone.

With newfound confidence, she picked up the poker, and positioned herself behind the door. Her nerves tensed. Adrenaline pumped into her bloodstream.

A knock came on the door. Surprised, she turned toward it. Oh, my God. Someone’s here. I’m saved. The poker clanged to the floor as Drake rushed out of the kitchen. She flew across the room and pulled open the door. A ranger stood there. She threw her arms around him as his face went from befuddled to sinister.

“You have another one, Drakey. Let’s just see how feisty she is before we bury her with the others….”
