Living in South Georgia, spring is a fleeting season that usually lasts only a few days before we have SUMMER! I have often said that we have only two seasons, Hot as Hell, and Not Quite so Hot. Winter usually doesn't tarry long in these parts, either. This past year was an exception. We actually had a "fall" and a "winter"....it even snowed! (Very unusual!!! for us, at least). But, it looks like spring will fall back into the old patterns of lasting briefly. It has already been 90+, and only a couple of weeks ago, it was still in the 40's and 50's during the day! After the stark harshness of winter When its cold no longer does sting, The birds and the bees start buzzing the trees And we know there’s just a touch of spring. The warmth of the sun shining brightly Makes promises posies will bring. Their lovely display in breezes will sway, And we know there’s just a touch of spring. Soon soft April showers will bring rain. The crickets and rain frogs will sing. With tenor and bass, the night will be graced, And we know there’s just a touch of spring. This gentle season of beginnings, So quickly it has its brief fling. It soon bids hello to summer, you know All we’ve had was just a touch of spring!
