The Dream
This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.
My dream is of a world where values truly shine.
The children that we cherish deserve a better time.
It’s really not that difficult  if we try and make it so.
That is what I hope to do before I have to go

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.
Why we fail to fix it I don’t claim to really know
As I walk out of the sunshine into the failing light.
Knowing that the world I leave you has never been quite right.
The darkness of our tomorrow matched by that of the human plight

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.

Confused about the path I seek and cannot seem to find.
I shake my head to clear my thoughts and I work to clear my mind.
I’ve read the words and know I heard, what the book said we were to be
Words upon the paper that’s all the world seems to see

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.
We need place these words into our hearts and really set them free
Matter of fact I really think that’s a good way to hope that it will be
A place for all to sit at their table and find pleasure from their meal

I read that in those tattered books…and I believe it’s real?

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.
The invisible feet, standing roughly our shoulders
Holding down the worlds tomorrows with the weight of boulders
The hand which condescendingly, rests heavy on our head
Rudely pushing down our lives until the day we’re dead.

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.

Tears streaming down my cheeks as I realize it’s time to go
I face the truth the world doesn’t really want to see it so.
I face this truth and ponder, what I can possibly do
For if the world doesn’t grasp this truth I know it is soon through

This old man I have a dream for you I leave behind.
Just a thought before we part… with which you must grapple.  Remember if all people own a piece of the pie their far less likely to steal the apples.
