Dreaming the Dream

By Indelibleink

In an era where we likely tend to follow the crowd,
Resulting in behavior that can be viewed as primal -
Pursue your own dreams if you want to emerge from the cloud,
Dream the dreams of other men and you'll be no one's rival.

It's our duty to turn around and question those in charge,
For at times we find we are led by a bottom-feeder.
Yet, as the challenges we face are now looming quite large,
Follow the orders of other men and you'll be no one's leader.

It is a fact that ever since the beginning of time,
Periods devoid of war have been pretty much zero.
That we keep repeating this cycle is really the crime,
Fight the battles of other men and you'll be no one's hero.

And though we all endorse the concept of "freedom of thought,"
Outwardly, enthusiastically encouraging all views of The Creator -
Inwardly, that concept is not often actually taught,
Deny the beliefs of other men and you'll be no one's liberator.

Writers all have great power attached to that little pen,
Like snowflakes, all driven by our own unique source of motivation.
So it's always important for us to remember, then,
Repeat the words of other men and you'll be no one's inspiration.
