Like a candle in the darkness
Like a beacon in the night With the love of Christ inside me I will show the Savior's light Burning brightly in the morning Burning brightly in the night Burning brightly through a lifetime I will show the Savior's light. When one strays into the darkness When one stumbles on life's way When one seeks and needs direction My light will burn the fears away Burning brightly in the morning Burning brightly in the night Burning brightly through a lifetime I will show the Savior's light In the midst of pain and suff'ring God's great peace is with me still Others who may look upon me With that peace their hearts will fill Burning brightly in the morning Burning brightly in the night Burning brightly through a lifetime I will show the Savior's light Midst the noise of worldly conflict I still know God's quiet peace I will share that peace so freely Those who see will striving cease Burning brightly in the morning Burning brightly in the night Burning brightly through a lifetime I will show the Savior's light. Like the Sun in brightest noonday Like the Moon in evening glow Like the stars up in the heavens I will let my light so show Burning brightly in the morning Burning brightly in the night Burning brightly through a lifetime I will show the Savior's light. Note: The above was written as the theme song for an annual event known as "Burning Brightly" held at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson, Texas, in early to mid-September during the years 1997, 1998 and 1999. This was a 3-night event each year held Monday - Wednesday which would somewhat resemble what other churches might call a revival. However, the format was that the Monday nights were focused on music, the Tuesday nights involved a drama presented by youth and the Wednesday nights culminated with the spoken word - meaning some form of sermon. Four verses are included above - there was a fifth verse which I will add when I locate the lyric sheet. (This verse has now been added, and appears as the second stanza above). No more than 3 verses were sung at any one time. These lyrics were sung to the tune of "Alleluia, Sing to Jesus" - a hymn appearing in the Lutheran Book of Worship.
